Chelated micronutrients are essential for preventing and correcting nutrient deficiencies in high-yield crop production. Choosing between EDTA and EDDHA configurations depends heavily on soil pH conditions and application methods.

As a leading producer and exporter from China, x-humate delivers high-purity chelated fertilizers manufactured to strict international standards for global agricultural markets.

EDTA vs. EDDHA: Technical Differences

The primary differentiator between these two chelating agents is their stability across different soil pH levels.

EDTA Chelated Fertilizers (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid)

  • Optimal pH Range: Highly stable in acidic to neutral soils (pH 4.0 to 6.5).

  • Primary Elements: Available as single-element chelates including EDTA-Fe 13%, EDTA-Zn 15%, EDTA-Mn 13%, EDTA-Cu 15%, EDTA-Ca 10%, and EDTA-Mg 6%.

  • Best Application: Ideal for foliar spraying because of its excellent leaf absorption rates. It is also widely used in open-field fertigation for acidic or neutral soils and as raw materials for water-soluble NPK blending.

EDDHA Chelated Fertilizers (Ethylenediamine-N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyphenylacetic acid))

  • Optimal pH Range: Extreme stability in highly alkaline and calcareous soils (pH 4.0 to 9.0).

  • Primary Elements: Commonly manufactured as EDDHA-Fe 6% (with varying ortho-ortho isomer content, such as 1.2%, 2.0%, 3.0%, 4.0%, and 4.8%).

  • Best Application: Strictly applied via soil injection, base application, or drip irrigation. The ortho-ortho isomer structure prevents iron from precipitating and locking up in high-pH soils, ensuring long-term iron availability to block yellow-leaf disease (chlorosis).
